Beginner Backpacking Trips

  • 6/24/25 - 6/25/25 Beginner Backpacking - (1 Night)

    This hiking trip takes you from Tahoe Meadows Trailhead (Tahoe Meadows) to Upper Price Lake, covering 8 miles over the course of two days. The route begins with a 4-mile stretch ESE on the Ophir Creek Trail, gaining 150 feet and descending 1,655 feet. We will reach a campsite near the outflow of Upper Price Lake. We will set up camp, filter water and relax near the lake before preparing a simple backpacking dinner. The next day we will wake up and cook a simple breakfast to fuel up for the hike back to Tahoe Meadows Trailhead. We will be sure to take more breaks on the way back up and filter more water from Ophir Creek before making it back to the trailhead.

  • 7/10/25 - 7/11/25 Beginner Backpacking - (1 Night)

    This hiking trip takes you from Ophir Creek Trailhead (Tahoe Meadows) to Tunnel Creek Parking Lot, covering 12.75 miles over the course of two days. The route begins with a 5-mile stretch south on the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT), gaining 730 feet and descending 857 feet, with a stop at the Diamond Peak Water Cache. Continuing south for 2 miles, you gain 919 feet and descend 1,408 feet, reaching a campsite just short of the Lake Tahoe NV State Park boundary. After setting up camp, you hike 1.75 miles, gaining 193 feet and losing 393 feet, before reaching Twin Lakes Water Source. On the final leg, you hike 4 miles north on the TRT to Tunnel Creek Road, gaining 468 feet and descending 2,237 feet to the Tunnel Creek Parking Lot.
